Prayer to St. Aloysius Gonzaga
O most glorious Saint Aloysius, who hast been honored by the Church with the fair title of “angelic youth,” because of the life of utmost purity thou didst lead here on earth, I come before thy presence this day with all the devotion of my mind and heart. O perfect exemplar, kind and powerful patron of young men, how great is my need of thee! The world and the devil are trying to ensnare me; I am conscious of that ardor of my passions; I know full well the weakness and inconstancy of my age. Who shall be able to keep me safe, if not thou, O saint of angelic purity, the glory and honor, the loving protector of youth? To thee, therefore, I have recourse with all my soul, to thee I commit myself with all my heart. I hereby resolve, promise, and desire to be especially devout toward thee, to glorify thee by imitating thy extraordinary virtues and in particular thy angelic purity, to copy thy example, and to promote devotion to thee among my companions. O dear Saint Aloysius, do thou guard and defend me always, in order that, under thy protection and following thy example, I may one day be able to join with thee in seeing and praising my God forever in heaven. Amen.
Prayer to St. Aloysius Gonzaga
O holy Mary, my Mistress into thy blessed trust and special keeping,
into the bosom of thy tender mercy, this day, every day of my life and
at the hour of my death, I commend my soul and body; to thee I entrust
all my hopes and consolations, all my trials and miseries, my life and
the end of my life, that through thy most holy intercession and thy
merits, all my actions may be ordered and disposed according to thy will
and that of thy divine Son.
Amen.
Prayer to St. Aloysius Gonzaga
Let us pray. O God, dispenser of heavenly gifts, you united in the angelic youth Aloysius, a wonderful innocence with a no less wonderful spirit of penance; grant us by virtue of his merits and prayers the grace to imitate his penance whose innocence we have not practised. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.
O Blessed Aloysius, adorned with angelic graces, I, your most unworthy suppliant, recommend specially to you the chastity of my soul and body, praying you by your angelic purity to plead for me with Jesus Christ, the Immaculate Lamb, and his most holy Mother, Virgin of virgins, that they would keep me from all grievous sin. O never let me be defiled with any stain of impurity; but when you see me in temptation, or in danger of falling, then remove far from my heart all bad thoughts and unclean desires, and awaken in me the memory of eternity to come and of Jesus crucified; impress deeply in my heart a sense of the holy fear of God; and thus, kindling in me the fire of divine love, enable me so to follow your footsteps here on earth that, in heaven with you, I may be made worthy to enjoy the vision of our God forever. Amen.
Dear Christian youth, St Aloysius, you were a faithful follower of Christ in the Society of Jesus. You steadily strove for perfection while generously serving the plague-stricken. Help our youth today who are faced with a plague of false cults and false gods. Show them how to harness their energies and to use them for their own and others’ fulfilment – which will redound to the greater glory of God. Amen.
Prayer to St. Aloysius Gonzaga
O Saint Aloysius, adorned with angelical virtues, although I am thy unworthy servant, I commend to thee most earnestly the chastity of my soul and body. I pray thee, by thy angelical purity, to commend me to the Immaculate Lamb, Jesus Christ, and to His most Holy Mother, the Virgin of virgins. Preserve me from every grievous sin. Permit me not to defile myself by any spot of impurity; and whenever thou seest me in temptation or danger of sin, banish far from my heart every impure thought and affection. Awaken in me the thought of eternity and of Jesus Crucified; imprint deeply in my heart a lively sentiment of the holy fear of God. Inflame me with divine love, and grant me the grace that by imitating thee on earth, I may merit to enjoy God with thee in heaven. Amen.
