Prayer to Bl. Ludovico Morbioli

St. Ludovico, you were born in Bologna during the Renaissance, one of six children. You led a worldly, dissolute life. You married a young woman who was a friend of your family and moved to Venice. While in this city, you fell very ill and was care for by the Canons Regular of Saint Savior. You underwent a sincere conversion and vowed to lead a life of penance. You became an itinerant preacher, walking with a crucifix as a staff and wearing a gray tunic with the cross embroidered upon it. At first you were mocked and jeered at, but as people started listening to your preaching they began to respect and venerate you. Often you would accompany condemned prisoners to the gallows. You spent your final years in a cellar where you refused treatment for your illness. You died at the age of fifty-two and immediately after your death you were recognized as a saint by the local populace.
St. Ludovico, you were a womanizer, gambler, and a drinker, but by God’s grace you turned to a life of virtue and became a saint. Pray for all the black sheep of this world, that they may reform and draw near to the Lord. St. Ludovico, you led a life of penance and austerity; pray that we may offer up little sacrifices to our God for the conversion of sinners. St. Ludovico, you now reign in heaven with Christ forever; pray for us who still must labor in this valley of tears. Amen.
Blessed Ludovico Morbioli, pray for us!
